‘Tis the season to spread some holiday cheer! And an anonymous Good Samaritan who visited a local Walmart did just that.
WPIX reports that a mysterious “Secret Santa” surprised shoppers at a Walmart in Uniondale, New York, by paying off all the layaway items the store had on file. The act of kindness took place in late November, and shoppers who spoke to the local news station were both pleased and stunned to learn that someone had done this.
“At this time of the year and with everything that’s going on in the world,” Kathy Tinucci, a Bellmore resident, told WPIX, “I think it’s such a fantastic story to hear, really.
What a loving gesture.”
“I think it’s wonderful. And to whoever’s doing it, God bless you, heaven smile upon you, and it’s a beautiful thing,” Roosevelt resident Lila Washington said.
Others who missed out on the deal by not having items on layaway were still happy to find out that there are still kindhearted people like this in the world.
“I missed out on the deal,” Roosevelt resident Tanya Moore said. “But that’s great that someone, you know, did a good deed.”
The store posted a photo of all the paid-off receipts on Facebook, and Walmart corporate also released a statement about the “Secret Santa’s” good deed.
“When customers quietly pay off others’ layaway items, we’re reminded how good people can be,” the retailer said in a statement. “We’re honored to be a small part of these random acts of kindness.”
Of course, this isn’t the first time someone has walked into a Walmart and paid off a slew of layaway purchases. Earlier this year, an anonymous “Kris Kringle” paid off layaway balances at a location in Derby, Vermont.
