A skydiving Santa Claus was trying to bring some Christmas cheer to a group of kids when he ran into an unexpected obstacle — that obstacle being a very large tree.
Dressed as Santa Claus, Gerard Krokus jumped out of a plane to bring toys to kids who were gathered for the Tampa Bay Beach Bums Operation Santa Charity Volleyball Tournament.
One of those gifts also happened to be a very special Elf on the Shelf, meant for 9-year-old Madison Spiers. Her stepdad, Dominic Nelson, helped organize the event and had worked with Gerard to set up the delivery.
Everything was going as planned until Santa’s parachute led him straight toward a tree on the beach; there was nothing he could do to stop the collision.
He crashed into the tree and then onto the sand, breaking his leg.
Madison witnessed the entire scene, but later ended up finding a note from her Elf, whose name is Kristoff.
“As we were about to land, this big tree jumped right out in front of us!” the note said.
According to “Kristoff,” Gerard was recovering in the hospital and in good spirits. Even though it didn’t turn out the way anyone expected, at least Madison got her Elf!
