It’s hard to believe that the beautiful Salma Hayek has a career that has spanned three decades already.
She’s an actress, a producer, and a director, all while being a timeless beauty. In an industry where everyone is desperately clinging to their youth, Salma seems to be effortlessly gliding along at 52 years old.
If we’re being honest, you need to squint pretty hard to see any signs of aging in Salma’s appearance. She’s a big believer of the “less is more” philosophy of beauty. She takes care of herself but doesn’t overdo it — she doesn’t believe in using a host of products day after day.
She credits her grandmother’s beauty routine for her simplistic view.
Salma even came out with her own skin care and makeup line, Nuance by Salma Hayek. It’s all part of her message that aging isn’t something to fear but to embrace. Her message of self-care and joie de vivre radiates through her actions.
Salma Hayek is living her best life. At 52 years old, she’s as free-spirited and beautiful as ever.
Here is Salma during a red carpet appearance in 1997. It’s clear that the rules of aging as we know them don’t quite apply to her.
That’s not to say that she’s not thinking about growing older. Salma has a very healthy attitude about the physical signs of aging that more people in Hollywood could stand to adopt.
A trip to Salma’s Instagram will show you that she’s not afraid to show what she really looks like. She regularly posts unfiltered selfies and doesn’t strike us as the type to take a hundred pictures before deciding on one.
Salma even posted this selfie recently proclaiming her love for her white hairs. She’s spoken out before about embracing this visible sign of aging.
Salma told the New York Times, “One of the reasons I don’t dye my hair is because I don’t have the patience to sit through it. I don’t want to spend what’s left of my youth pretending I’m younger and then not enjoying life.”
Salma also doesn’t worry too much about glam during her off-hours. She explained, “My hair is curly and wild when I’m not working… If my hair is really embarrassingly crazy, I put it in a ponytail.”
Salma has also been vocal about her “less is more” approach to beauty and skin care. She brought that idea to her own line, Nuance by Salma Hayek.
Salma admits that she’s so comfortable with her own everyday look that sometimes her glam squad has to let her know when things need to be tended to. She explained, “I get my hair cut wherever I’m working or doing publicity, and the hairdresser asks me, ‘Please, please, can I cut your hair?’ It’s the same with my eyebrows. They grow and grow until a makeup artist looks at me and begs to do something to them because they’re so much.”
Salma’s even dished on her secrets for keeping her skin youthful.
She said, “I never cleanse my skin in the morning. My grandmother taught me that at night your skin replenishes all the things you lost during the day. Also, if I cleanse very well at night, why would it be dirty when I wake up? It’s for companies to have you use more products.”
Instead, she spritzes her face with rose water and then moisturizes to start her day. She follows that up with sunscreen if she’ll be out in the sun.
“I don’t think the chemicals in sunscreen are good for your skin. I believe in using it when you need it,” she explained.
Salma’s also against too much exfoliating and makes sure not to over-exfoliate. She explained, “Exfoliating a lot may make you look good in the short term, but not I think in the long term. I see many women in L.A. who have exfoliated so much they look shiny. I’ll use a mix of serums and oils depending on my skin that day.”
Fans are totally on board with Salma’s all-natural approach. Her decision to let her white hairs run wild resonated with many women.
Salma is definitely aging gracefully. In an industry obsessed with youth, she’s taken a different path and chosen to be raw and real about her life — and we applaud her for it!
