Steve Mershon loves living near the beach. He snaps pictures of sunsets and wildlife, and finds oddities in the sand to take home.
But one day, just before starting his job as an electrician, he saw a plastic bottle in the sand. To anyone, this would be trash, but inside he saw a rolled-up piece of paper with some writing on it.
The writing looked like it was from a child.
He picked it up, and twisted the cap open. Then he saw what was written.
The note read:
“Dear Daniel, I’m relly [sic] sorry that you passed away and if you were alive me and you would be playing football, soccer, and basketball and be playing with Mattew [sic] and Oscar and Brandon.
I am in the fifth grade and you were my best friend and our favorite song was Austin Moon and I hope you [have] fun with Jesus. From your best freind [sic] Jonothon Torres.”
After reading this, Steve knew he had to respond…
