Woman Buys $1 Candleholders, Then Transforms Them Into Rustic Centerpiece With Burlap

by Lindsey Smith
Lindsey is from Florida and has worked in online and print media. Her happy place is Michaels craft store.

If you’re a fan of shabby chic farmhouse decor but want to decorate on a budget, Kelly Barlow has the cutest candleholders. The best part is that the mom found all the items at her local dollar store.

The items needed are two LED candles, burlap flowers, a spool of burlap, two round wire candleholders, lace ribbon, and two round mirrors. All were found at a dollar store, costing around $10 total. The only item she spent more on was spray paint.

To start, she spray-paints the wire candle holders and lets them dry, then she distresses them with sand paper to give it that perfect rustic look. With glue, Kelly traces around the top of the candleholder then adheres a mirror to each one.

To transform the pillar LED candles, she wraps each in burlap and a thin piece of the lace. To top it off, she glues on one of the burlap flowers over the seam of the burlap and ribbon to hide it!

“I absolutely love these!” Kelly says about the easy DIY design. She also suggests adding red burlap flowers — also found at the dollar store — around the holidays for a “country Christmas feel.”

The candles are then ready to be placed on their newly painted stand after that and can be placed as centerpieces or on a hutch.
