I Tried Rodan + Fields Lash Boost For 6 Weeks To See If It’s Really Worth All The Hype

by Jess Catcher
Jess grew up in Oklahoma before moving to New York to become a writer. She has a cat named Agnes.

Chances are, you can’t scroll through more than two or three posts on your Facebook feed before seeing someone raving about Rodan + Fields — especially their Lash Boost product.

Dr. Katie Rodan and Dr. Kathy Fields founded the company back in 2002 and have rapidly grown in recent years. You probably have more than a few R+F consultants singing the praises of their products in your friend list. Out of all the items they offer for beauty and anti-aging, none have gotten quite as much attention as the lash boost.

The website claims that after weeks of using their $150 serum on a nightly basis, you’ll wake up to thick, luscious lashes that will have you leaving your mascara behind.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a free sample from the company to test out their claims for myself. After seeing my own friends posting photos of their amped-up lashes, I was looking forward to similar results.

Right off the bat, I was impressed with the customer service I received from the company.

If their consultants are even half as friendly and fast with the products they’re selling, then they’re doing an amazing job. I emailed their public relations department in the morning and had the serum in my hands before the afternoon was even over.

Despite all of the results I’d seen on my Facebook feed, I am a naturally skeptical person. I wasn’t totally convinced this serum could really give me the seemingly magical transformation, but I was definitely curious to see what would really happen.

The most important things to keep in mind from the instructions? Make sure your eyelids are clean and dry, wipe off any excess before applying, wipe off any of the product that strays from your lash line, and wait 90 seconds before falling asleep or adding more product to the area.

They also warn that a “mild tingling,” irritation, and redness can occur. Obviously, if your eyes react badly to the serum, you should stop using it. Long lashes are great, but not worth seriously injuring your eyes!

My Lashes Before Using Boost

The issue I’ve always had with my lashes hasn’t had to do with their length, but the thickness.

As you can see above, you could hardly tell I have eyelashes without a coat or two of mascara.

That said, I have also been pretty proud of how long they do look when I bothered to put makeup on.

With all of that in mind, I was excited to see if the serum could really help me feel comfortable without mascara making my lashes stand out.

Applying Lash Boost

I have to admit, I poked myself in the eye on more than one attempt at applying the serum. As they say in the instructions, it’s important to quickly wash that out of your eye, which I did.

Although you can’t see it in this photo taken immediately after I applied the lash boost, I did experience some redness while using it.

I chalk that up to the user error of getting some in my eye every now and then. Plus, the redness never lasted long and wasn’t actually painful, so I persevered.

A Few Weeks After Using Lash Boost

This photo was taken after about three weeks of using the product.

As you can see, I wasn’t quite at the level of putting down my mascara for the day, but I could definitely see a difference in the length already.

Even after six weeks, however, you can see that my lashes are still pretty hard to see without mascara.

But just applying a couple coats of regular drug store mascara shows how huge a difference the serum made on my length.

Before And After

A close-up without mascara also shows that, while they are still very light in color — which the serum can’t really do much about — the lashes have definitely increased in overall thickness.

And again, with mascara, I was honestly blown away by how big of a difference the serum has made.

As I said before, I was never worried about the length of my lashes, but now I absolutely adore them! Just the other day, my roommate — who didn’t know I was using the lash boost — commented on how lush they look lately.

Final Thoughts On Rodan + Fields Lash Boost

One drawback: my glasses are getting smudged a lot easier these days, but that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make.

Would I use this product again? Absolutely! I probably won’t be using it every night after another couple weeks of seeing how much growth I can get, but I’m definitely going to keep using it until the tube runs out. I can see myself needing mascara less and less in the future.

I’m also going to start using it on my eyebrows to see if it can help boost them, too, as their website claims.

Would I recommend it to a friend? If you’re OK with the hefty $150 price tag, then I totally recommend it. Or, if you have other products from the company you’d like to use, then bundle them together with the serum for a better deal. Although I can’t speak to their other products (yet), I can say, hands down, this serum gave me results.

Do you know someone who’s thinking about using this lash boost serum?
