‘Do It On A Dime’ Blogger Turns Dollar Store Items Into Gorgeous Home Decorations

by Karen Belz
Karen Belz has written for sites such as Bustle, HelloGiggles, Romper, and So Yummy. She's the mom of a sassy toddler and drinks an alarming amount of Sugar-Free Red Bull in order to keep up with her.

Right now, as certain states are beginning to phase in reopening plans, people have their eye on furniture and decor.

Why? Probably because due to all this time at home, we all need to look at something new. We crave different spaces, and new art.

But here’s the hard part. So many people are out of work and fighting for their unemployment to go through. And even those benefits aren’t a cure-all for bills and everyday expenses. It’s important now, more than ever, to learn how to pinch pennies.

Luckily, a blogger by the name of Kathryn is here to help. Kathryn runs a blog called Do It on a Dime, and it’s become very popular with frugal decorators.

She states that a lot of great items can be bought from your local dollar store and repurposed. One example she gave involves mirrors. At the dollar store, a standard mirror is very cheap — but not visually eye-catching. But if you buy a bunch of them and secure them together with tape and glue? Now you’re talking.

Kathryn actually priced out a similar piece for thousands of dollars. Why spend that amount when you don’t have to? Kathryn is also a big fan of big candle jars, which can be found at any dollar store. With a little bit of crafting, you can create beautiful centerpieces. As a bonus, if you get good at them? Maybe you can start your own Etsy store and sell your crafts to others for some extra income.
