René Angélil, Céline Dion’s beloved husband and manager, has died at the age of 73.

Without René’s love and support, Céline Dion wouldn’t be the household name she is today.

Before signing on as Céline’s manager, he started out as a pop singer in Montréal. When he met Céline, however, he believed in her talent so much that he mortgaged his home to finance her first record.

In 1993, Dion declared René “the colour of [her] love” in the dedication section of her album, The Colour of My Love. She worried her fans would criticize their romantic relationship, but she and René were fully embraced. In December of 1994, the world was stunned when the couple broadcast their incredibly lavish, fairytale wedding ceremony on Canadian TV. It was a major moment in pop culture history.

Céline and René have been inseparable ever since. She remained right by his side despite his deteriorating health over the past 20 years. In 2010, the couple welcomed twin boys. In September 2015, Céline revealed that René’s cancer was terminal. He passed away at his home in Las Vegas on January 14, 2016.

Rest in peace, René. Please SHARE this with your friends on Facebook.
