People all over the world fell in love with Meghan Markle’s mom Doria Ragland after seeing her at the royal wedding in May.

Many were touched by how happy and proud the elegant Doria looked on Meghan’s big day. It was particularly poignant to see her among the guests, given that she was the only member of Meghan’s family to attend her wedding to Prince Harry.

Meghan is open about how close she’s always been to her mom. Now it appears that the Queen is acknowledging that bond with a special favor for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

The Daily Mail reports that Doria might be spending part of the Christmas holiday in England with the Queen and the rest of the royal family.

A source said that the Queen asked Meghan’s 62-year-old mom to join them for the family’s first Christmas holiday that Meghan and Harry will be spending as newlyweds and that the gesture was a “mark of her respect” for her new granddaughter-in-law.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson declined to comment on the Daily Mail‘s report, so nothing is officially confirmed yet. But other royal insiders have said there’s a really good chance the Los Angeles-based social worker will be with her pregnant daughter during the holidays.

“It is very likely Doria will be at Sandringham for Christmas and will be spending the holidays with Harry, Meghan, and other members of the royal family,” a separate source told Us Weekly on Monday, one day after the Daily Mail‘s initial report.

If the Queen did actually invite Doria to Sandringham, it would be a major break in royal precedent.

According to Vanity Fair, typically only official members of the royal family are invited to join the Queen for Christmas. For example, the Middleton family has never been invited to Sandringham itself, though they have joined the royals for Christmas morning mass and stayed at another nearby estate. Meghan was famously an exception to this rule last year, when she joined Harry’s family after they got engaged but before they were actually married.

Another royal insider told Vanity Fair that this invitation came about because the Queen is sympathetic to Meghan’s difficult family situation and the fact that the former Suits star doesn’t have any other family in England.

“The Queen was very impressed by Mrs. Ragland when they met,” said the source. “The Queen knows that Meghan’s family situation is complicated and that the easiest way for Meghan and Harry to be together and with Doria, which is what they want, is for them all to join her at Sandringham where there is plenty of space. It’s not the norm but then things seem to have changed quite a lot recently.”

What do you think of the Queen’s incredibly sweet rumored gesture?
