Sources Believe Queen Elizabeth Will Retire From Royal Duties In 18 Months

The scandal surrounding Prince Andrew and his ties to Jeffrey Epstein has led the royal family to make some tough decisions in recent days.

They’ve also been very telling on what we can expect from the monarchy in the coming years, according to sources. As Prince Charles stepped up to take control of what’s been a disastrous blow to the monarchy, there are talks that this is the beginning of him taking the reigns from Queen Elizabeth.

There’s been speculation for quite some time that Charles would be a “shadow king” to his mother’s monarchy as she continues to age. Queen Elizabeth will turn 95 in 18 months.

That’s the same age that Prince Philip was when he retired from royal duties. The Sun is reporting that the Queen may use her milestone birthday to allow her son to become prince regent.

“The scandal surrounding Andrew and Epstein gave Charles an opportunity to step in to show that he can run The Firm. Noone is bigger than the institution of the Royal Family. Not even Andrew, the Queen’s favourite son,” a source told the paper. “Charles recognised that and acted decisively — like the king he may well soon be. This was the moment when Charles stepped up as Prince Regent, the Shadow King.”

The Queen has reduced her number of royal appearances in the last two years, with Charles and Prince William stepping up in her place. It’s believed that Charles and William are regularly discussing the future of the monarchy, including figuring out what role Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will fill in their vision for a slimmed-down royal family. Charles will have big shoes to fill, as Queen Elizabeth’s reign has been marked by her incredible fashion, sense of humor, and the many changes she’s led the monarchy through.
