Queen Elizabeth II of England has worn many outfits throughout her 65-year reign, but did you know there’s actually a reason behind the colors of those outfits?
Whenever the Queen steps out of her home, there are cameras following. Many of those cameras have been able to capture her style over the years, and a constant in her fashion choices has been bright colors.
One doesn’t have to look for very long to find instances of her wearing colors like neon greens, bright pinks, or bold purples. But according to Queen Elizabeth’s daughter-in-law, Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, this is not simply a matter of the Queen’s personal preference for bright colors.
In the documentary, The Queen at 90, Sophie sheds light on the real reason why the Queen is always seen in such vibrant outfits. She says that the Queen’s fashion choices are more out of consideration for others than anything else:
“She needs to stand out for people to be able to say, ‘I saw the Queen,'” Sophie says. “Don’t forget that when she turns up somewhere, the crowds are two, three, four, 10, 15 deep, and someone wants to be able to say they saw a bit of the Queen’s hat as she went past.”
Makes sense — the Queen always has her fans and followers in mind!
