We’ve all heard of mothers who didn’t know they were pregnant. But have you ever heard of a mom who didn’t know she was pregnant with four babies?
That’s what happened to Ruth Mochire, a 43-year-old mom who’d already had five kids.
Ruth had taken a trip to Kenya to visit her family. When she came back to the United States, she had to go to the doctor for a mandatory medical checkup before she would be allowed to return to work. That’s where she learned she couldn’t go back to work — not because she was sick, but because she was pregnant.
Ruth didn’t believe it at first. She said, “It’s so odd to be over 40 years of age and be pregnant, and mid-40s is, like, impossible.” In fact, she was in such disbelief that she went to the hospital to get a second opinion. The doctor there told her that she wasn’t just pregnant — she was having quadruplets.
Ruth says she was so stunned that she couldn’t speak to her husband about her pregnancy for two days. With five kids already, Ruth and her husband were worried about how they would support a family of 11. They also lost their home in Hurricane Harvey and have been living in apartments. But with four babies on the way, they will definitely need some more space.
Although Ruth’s family was initially shocked at the news, she says they’ve been totally supportive.
Hoping to help, Ruth’s church family started a fundraiser for her and the babies. There, they announced that the four little bundles of joy were born on December 23, 2017.
