We throw away things we don’t want anymore, like discarded banana peels, containers, and used paper towels. Yet, these are all things. They’re inanimate objects. You wouldn’t expect to find something living, like an unwanted pet, in the trash.

Unfortunately, it seems that lately more and more people are discarding their unwanted dogs and cats like they’re junk. They’re treating animals like actual garbage.

In fact, one man in San Rafael, CA discovered something odd the other day. He told the Marin Humane Society that he was passing by a Dumpster when he found a crate full of puppies. Nine to be exact — five males and four females — which seemed to be about nine-weeks-old and are either rottweilers or Labs.

“It’s heartbreaking to think of someone dumping these adorable puppies like so much trash,” Marin Humane Society wrote on their Facebook page. “But we know they’ll soon find good homes!”

The nine puppies are in good health and are not underweight. Someone was obviously taking good care of them.

This is precisely why it’s so important that people spay and neuter their pets.

We can’t control what animals do, but we can help control the population of unwanted strays by getting pets fixed. Puppies are cute, but they're also a handful.
