After the birth of Doug and Heather Wilson’s second son, doctors advised them not to try for a third for fear that it would be a high-risk pregnancy.

Yet they dreamed of having a baby girl.

Two years later, the couple turned to adoption to grow their already happy family.

In August 2012, the Wilsons officially began the demanding process, which required loads of paperwork, pre-placement visits, and long periods of waiting.

The following summer, the Wilson family finally received their incredible blessing, two beautiful girls named Promise and Paige.

“The moment they came out of the agency, it was raining, and we saw their sweet faces and in that moment we knew they were part of our family,” Heather explains in the video below (originally shared on YouTube) chronicling the family’s adoption process.

“Both Doug and I wept with joy.”

Similarly to many other adoptions, however, the beginning was difficult. The girls didn’t smile much and seemed uneasy. But, by the fall and winter of 2013, Promise and Paige became well adjusted to the Wilson household and formed a strong bond with their older brothers.

“Over time, their fear turned to trust,” the family says. “Their light brightened. Their tears turned to laughter. Their personalities emerged.”
