Eighteen-year-old Jared Hill wanted to attend prom with his girlfriend, but there was one major catch.

Jared was a cancer patient, and his doctor told him the only way he could go to Emily’s prom would be if he agreed to wear a surgical mask. By doing so, the teen would avoid contracting any germs.

Unsure of how other kids would react to his mask, and not wanting to draw too much attention to himself, Jared was understandably nervous about going. But he knew how important prom was, and he really didn’t want to miss out on the fun. And Emily wasn’t about to let her boyfriend miss out on their magical evening.

So, she came up with the most amazing plan.

Emily — along with their entire prom group — decided to all wear protective masks so that Jared wouldn’t feel uncomfortable. By the time the group posed for their prom photos, each and every person was wearing a surgical mask along with their gowns and suits. It’s a simple act, yet one that’s incredibly powerful and heartwarming.

Even at 17, these teens showed a ton of character and thought. They truly united to make sure Jared had the best prom experience ever.
