January 8, 2018, marked a momentous occasion in Princess Charlotte’s life: her first day of nursery school!

The royal toddler posed on the steps of Kensington Palace before heading off to school, where Duchess Kate snapped a few pictures of her excited daughter.

Of course, Princess Charlotte looked absolutely adorable, wearing a deep red coat and matching shoes. She finished off her look with some gray tights, a light pink scarf, and a perfect red hair bow.

The tiny princess also had a light pink backpack.

Last month, Kate and William announced that Charlotte would be attending the Willcocks Nursery School, which is about half a mile from Kensington Palace.

Although some toddlers are apprehensive about school, Princess Charlotte couldn’t look more excited.

Later, Kate and William shared the photos on the royal Instagram page. Take a look below to see the adorable pictures, and to find out more about Charlotte’s first day!

Princess Charlotte just started nursery school, and her parents couldn’t be prouder! They shared two images of the little princess on Instagram with the caption:

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to share two photographs of Princess Charlotte at Kensington Palace this morning.

The images were taken by The Duchess shortly before Princess Charlotte left for her first day of nursery at the Willcocks Nursery School.

Although she’s only 2 1/2, Charlotte looks totally ready to start nursery school.

Her brother, George, was 4 when he started going to Thomas’s Battersea last fall.

Before that, he attended a Montessori nursery school.

Princess Charlotte’s school has an all-female staff, and is known to be an outstanding establishment.

Now that Kate and William are expecting baby number three, it makes sense that they would want both their older children settled into preschool before the new little one arrives.

The new royal baby is due April 2018, just a month before Prince Harry is set to marry Meghan Markle at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The spring will definitely be full of excitement for the royal family, but right now it’s Charlotte’s time to shine.

She may only be a toddler, but she definitely doesn’t shy away from the spotlight.

It’s pretty obvious that Princess Charlotte knows how cute she is, and she loves getting her picture taken.

Fans commented on how sweet Charlotte looked. One person wrote, “Awwww. What a little beauty!”

These photographs are especially significant because they were taken by the Duchess herself.

Instead of just posing for another official portrait, Charlotte was able to be fully herself before her mom took her to school.

Kate wasn’t able to attend Prince George’s first day of school because of severe morning sickness, so it’s nice to see that she was feeling well enough to able to accompany her daughter.

Now that both Charlotte and George are enrolled in school, the Duke and Duchess will return to work this week.

According to The Telegraph, William will visit the Royal Marsden Hospital, where he is president of the Trust.

Meanwhile, Kate will visit Reach Academy in Feltham.

She will be representing Place2Be, a children’s mental health charity.
