Every Adorable Photo From Prince Louis’ Very Private Christening

by Angela Andaloro

It’s been a wild spring for the royal family. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding came just a few weeks after the birth of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s third child, Louis Arthur Charles. While the spotlight was off Louis as the royal wedding went down, all eyes were on him this week as the royal family gathered to celebrate his christening.

The christening took place at Chapel Royal in St. James Palace, the same place Prince George was baptized. Louis, now 2 months old, was baptized into the Church of England by the same reverend who presided over Harry and Meghan’s wedding, the Most Reverend Justin Welby.

While many members of the royal family were there to celebrate the special event, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were not present. Representatives for the royal family assured the public that this was not due to any health issues regarding Queen Elizabeth or Prince Philip, but rather their busy schedules. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful event and a very special day for the youngest royal.

His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge was born on April 23. His full name is Louis Arthur Charles.

His birth came just a few days before the seventh wedding anniversary of his parents, William and Kate!

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared this sweet shot of Louis with big sister Charlotte, who turned 3 just days after his arrival.

Since the release of these photos, there hasn’t been much news on the newest royal baby.

All About Louis' Christening

Louis was surrounded by loved ones for the special occasion.

Louis’ older siblings, George and Charlotte, were both in attendance. They held William’s hand as Kate held Louis.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, were also in attendance. They weren’t selected as godparents, as William and Kate have taken to asking members of the extended family and friends instead.

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were all smiles leading up to the event.

Prince Louis was given six godparents! They are Lucy Middleton, Kate’s cousin; Nicholas van Cutsem, a lifelong friend of William’s; Laura Meade, a close friend of the couple (her husband is one of Charlotte’s godparents); Guy Pelly, a close friend of William and Harry; Harry Aubrey-Fletcher, another friend of William’s and Harry’s; and Hannah Gillingham, a close friend of Kate’s.

Two very special tunes were selected for the event: “This Is the Day Which the Lord Hath Made” was an anthem composed for the wedding of William and Kate. R. Vaughan Williams’ “Prelude on Rhosymedre” was played at both the wedding of William and Kate and the wedding of Charles and Diana.

Despite the absence of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, the date of Louis’ christening kept them in everyone’s minds and hearts. He was baptized on the 70th anniversary of the announcement of their engagement.

There's no doubting the public's excitement for the younger generation of royals.
