The London premiere of Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King brought out big names and some surprise encounters.
It was already sure to be a star-studded night at the Odeon Theatre. Fans were surprised, however, when the red carpet was cleared for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s attendance followed Disney’s announcement of its Protect the Pride campaign. The campaign aims to help global conservation efforts to increase lion populations throughout Africa. As part of the campaign, Disney has donated to Harry and Meghan’s upcoming environment and community initiative.
The details of the initiative are expected to be released publicly this fall. The release will likely be coordinated with the couple’s royal tour of Africa.
At the event, Harry and Meghan met with the cast members of the film. It’s the first time Meghan and Beyoncé have met. The meeting between British royals and America’s unofficial royalty was one for the books. Among the things the two couples talked about was parenting. Beyoncé and Jay-Z are parents to 7-year-old Blue Ivy and 2-year-old twins Rumi and Sir. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex even shared an exciting new milestone in 2-month-old Archie’s life with the couple.
Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King has brought out the masses at each premiere event so far. This weekend marked the film’s European premiere at London’s Odeon Theatre and featured some very special guests.
The star-studded event brought out many celebrities. However, the film screening’s location in London got rumors of royal attendees swirling. When the red carpet began being cleared, many wondered if the rumors were actually true.
It turns out, they were! Prince Harry and Meghan Markle appeared on the carpet. The couple took plenty of time to shake hands and meet fans outside of the Odeon Theatre before heading inside. It was there that the couple was set to meet the film’s cast before the screening.
Harry and Meghan’s attendance came after Disney made a donation to the couple’s upcoming environment and community initiative. The details of this project are expected to be announced this fall, in conjunction with the Sussexes’ royal tour of Africa.
Disney’s donation to the initiative is part of its Protect the Pride campaign. The campaign aims to support global efforts to conserve the lion population. In fact, Disney hopes to help double the world’s lion population by 2050.
Inside, two power couples came together in a seriously major moment. Harry and Meghan met America’s unofficial royal couple, Beyoncé and Jay-Z. The moment marked the first time that Meghan and Beyoncé have met.
The conversation between the two couples quickly turned to parenting. People reported that Beyoncé told Meghan that Archie is “so beautiful.” Harry excitedly chimed in with a sweet story about Archie’s latest milestone, while bittersweetly noting that the 2-month-old is “not so little anymore.”
Harry revealed that Archie has begun holding his own head up! Beyoncé responded, “He’s holding his neck up?” Prince Harry even excitedly mimicked Archie doing it and his own reaction, which was all smiles and cheering the baby boy on.
Jay-Z offered the new parents some words of wisdom. “The best advice I can give you, always find some time for yourself,” he told Meghan and Harry. Harry then asked about their children, who didn’t accompany them to this premiere.
It’s no secret that Beyoncé and Jay-Z are big fans of Meghan’s. The two posed with a painting of Meghan after winning the 2019 Brit Award for Best International Group. The photo was taken in celebration of Black History Month, and it was also a way for the couple to congratulate Meghan on her pregnancy.
Meghan and Harry also caught up with some other stars at the event. They spent time chatting with Pharrell Williams and Billy Eichner. They also spent a special moment with Elton John, who sang at their wedding reception last May.
The night out also contained some business for the couple. They took the time to speak with various organizations that were present. The organizations are doing important and groundbreaking work for animal and environmental conservation efforts.
While Meghan finishes out her maternity leave, Harry is hard at work on creating partnerships and connections to help global issues dear to him.
His current focus on Africa ahead of their royal tour of the continent also has personal ties. He spent time in the area while mourning the loss of his mother, the late Princess Diana. Throughout the years, it became a place of inner peace for him and an important setting in his relationship with Meghan as well.
