After more than a year of dating, Prince Harry and his girlfriend, Meghan Markle, have finally made their first official appearance together.

The Suits actress and the royal family favorite attended the Invictus Games together in Toronto. The Invictus Games is an international Paralympic-style sporting event (that Prince Harry himself founded in 2014) where wounded, injured, or ill servicemen and women compete in a variety of competitions.

In video footage captured by multiple news outlets, you can see the redheaded prince and his girlfriend holding hands as they walk together on September 25, 2017.

They also sat next to each other at one point to take in an event. Both look happy as can be, smiling at one another, whispering, laughing, and generally sharing sweet moments of affection.

Their first official appearance at a royal event comes just weeks after Meghan made waves by speaking candidly about their romance in a revealing interview with Vanity Fair.

The fact that Prince Harry and Meghan showed any public displays of affection at a major public event is a huge deal and signals that their relationship is very serious.

Speaking to People, royal etiquette expert Myka Meier weighed in on what the couple’s PDA probably means. “I believe an engagement is imminent,” she said.

Though there is “no formal protocol” against showing affection at official events, it’s definitely rare for an unmarried royal to act like this. Even the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge rarely engage in PDA (including holding hands in public), despite the fact that there is “no actual etiquette or royal protocol” forbidding it.

“It certainly makes a statement,” Myka continued. “To show PDA as a representative of the British monarchy at such an official event says everything! Rarely in the past have we seen unmarried royals showing PDA with significant others at a public event — it’s a sure sign that things are as serious as they could be without being engaged.”

Do you think an engagement is in Prince Harry’s near future?
