New Zealand teenager Emma Crofts-Wilson had no idea she was pregnant until she saw her newborn’s head emerge from between her legs.
The 19-year-old had a terrible stomach ache and decided to take some painkillers.
Emma was in the kitchen floor when suddenly she looked down and saw her daughter’ head.
“I didn’t know what was happening. I just felt a major stinging feeling and when I looked down, I saw a head,” she said. ‘That’s when it hit me. The next thing I knew, I had a baby in my arms.”
She was all alone and didn’t even scream because she was so intensely in shock.
“I was in complete shock and didn’t know what to think, but I managed to cut her umbilical cord with a pair of kitchen scissors and wrapped her in a towel,” she said.
“Then I tried to clean up all the blood.”
Then she sent her mother a text. It read: “Please don’t be mad or angry, but I’ve just had a baby. I don’t know what to do.”
When her parents returned home, Emma was taken to the hospital where she had surgery to correct a tear and delivered her placenta. Emma felt no need to contact the baby’s father since he was a one-night stand. However, her family has been supportive.
“My dad’s sister shared our story on Facebook and random strangers started dropping off donations of clothes and car seats and supplies for us. We’re very lucky,” she said.
