Hilary Duff recently had an emotional confrontation with a paparazzo who had been stalking her all day long, no doubt hoping to make an easy buck selling candid snaps of the nine-months-pregnant mom.
As the star herself points out, if this were happening to anyone else, it would be considered a crime.
It sounds like this photographer was going beyond the usual limits of what celebrities tolerate. Hilary would know, considering she’s been a big star for most of her life. But once the stalking starts interfering with your daily routine — and is so persistent that it’s causing you to worry for your safety — something needs to be said.
As you’ll see below, Hilary exercises serious restraint during the clip — far more than most uncomfortable mothers would show — but still manages to make an example of the jerk who refused to leave her alone.
Check out the star’s genius, mature handling of the situation below.
Hilary has been in the spotlight all her life.
She was a teen idol back in the day, both in the recording studio and on the Disney Channel. Today, she continues to work while raising her family.
With an Instagram following this large, you can imagine why the paparazzi constantly tail Hilary! However, you generally expect photographers to obey basic, common-sense decency.
For the pregnant actress to finally confront a photographer like this means he must have really crossed the line.
Hilary has no problem showing off her baby bump.
Her Instagram is absolutely full of photos showing it off to her many adoring followers. She’s never been shy about her figure and is a huge supporter of body positivity!
The Younger star is currently expecting her second child, a baby girl. She shares 6-year-old son Luca with her ex-husband, Mike Comrie.
Again, for someone so comfortable sharing her body and personal life online, this paparazzo must have been especially egregious to prompt such a big reaction and a public callout.
Here's the clip of the incident:
After she says, “You’re like, hunting me down,” the photographer replies that he doesn’t have any photos — as if that’s an excuse to continue to bug her.
Then, with more poise than is owed him, Hilary calmly replies, “I know, but I feel very uncomfortable.”
She explains the situation more thoroughly in the caption. This guy clearly went over the line, and Hilary put his face all over Instagram in retaliation.
The celeb mom's fans are behind her 100%.
Celebrities have a right to privacy, too. If he doesn’t leave her alone after being asked politely, he’s officially on the wrong side of the law.
It sounds like Hilary took the high road here, but we’re willing to bet every celeb in LA now knows this guy’s face and will have zero patience for him.
Hilary is not the first A-list mom to complain about paparazzi.
According to Today, Kristen Bell once blocked a paparazzo in a parking lot because he was taking photographs of her kids at school, potentially putting them at risk from crazed fans. Kristen and her husband, Dax Shepard, are notoriously strict when it comes to keeping their kids out of the public eye.
Similarly, according to E! News, Jennifer Garner helped get a bill passed in California that prevents children of celebrities being photographed too closely. But unfortunately it still happens. She’s said that her youngest son has become afraid of men with cameras in public as a result.
Thankfully, the real fans of these stars are supportive.
Everyone has the right to a private life, even if their jobs put them in the spotlight more than most.
Hopefully, Hilary’s example will make the paparazzi think twice before stalking families like this again!
