You never know where some simple small talk might lead you, even if that small talk occurs at the drive-thru of your local Popeye’s!
That is exactly what happened in the video below, though. Don Carter of Kansas City, Missouri, was hungry on the evening of Friday, March 24, and decided to stop by his local Popeye’s for a meal.
When he rolled up to the drive-thru window, he met Shajuana Mays, who was working that evening.
They began to make small talk, and Shajuana informed him that she wanted to go back to school for nursing, but felt tired and defeated from the daily grind of work getting in the way of her dreams.
Don got his food and drove home, but Shajuana’s words stayed with him, so much so that he created a GoFundMe page with her situation, just to see if anyone would donate to her cause to return and succeed in nursing school.
In just two days, his friends and community members raised more than $4,600.
In the video below, provided by WDAF, Don and the people who donated — individuals that Shajuana had never met before in her life — arrived to her Popeye’s and ate in the restaurant. All the while, she had no idea that the busy lunch rush was actually in on a big surprise!
