Most of us would do just about anything to save our beloved dog — and that’s all Peter Rogaishio had in mind when he was rushing his Doberman, Thor, to the vet.
Thor had escaped Peter’s yard and run into the street. Peter “heard the bang and the howl” and rushed out to Thor, but the dog had already been hit by two cars. He was bleeding and had broken three of his legs.
Although police got to the scene quickly, Peter couldn’t wait for animal control to arrive and bring Thor to the vet. After half an hour of waiting, Peter knew Thor was running out of time.
So, he put Thor in his truck and took off. He says he was speeding down the road, flashing his lights and honking his horn to let others know there was an emergency.
When he saw a cop car, he sped right past him.
That was the beginning of a high-speed chase that would end in Peter getting arrested.
After a mile and a half, Peter reached a police roadblock. He came out of his car with his hands up and screamed, “My dog is dying!”
Thankfully, the police realized what was happening. One officer escorted Thor to the hospital while another officer escorted Peter to jail.
Thankfully, Thor survived and is now recovering. And Peter’s actions may not have been smart, but they just may just have saved Thor’s life.
