Plenty of schools are rumored to be haunted. Even my own elementary school was plagued with rumors of ghosts running through the halls.

I never saw any real paranormal activity, but one school in Poasttown, Ohio, is seemingly overflowing with it.

Poasttown Elementary School closed down in 1999. It had been open since 1937.

Five years after the school shut, Darrell Whisman purchased the 54-room building. According to WCPO, Darrell had gone to school there in the 1960s, and decided to convert it into his home instead of letting it stand abandoned.

Darrell was excited about all the possibilities the school held, but things quickly took a dark, scary turn.

Before long, Darrell and his wife started to hear voices echoing through the hallways. Then, they heard desks being dragged across the floor, lockers being slammed shut, and even unexplained footsteps throughout the building.

But it’s not just unnerving sounds. Darrell and his wife also saw shadows coming from nowhere.

Darrell learned about two eerie train crashes in the area that happened on the same day, years apart: July 4, 1895 and 1910. He believes these train wrecks might have something to do with his school’s unusual haunting.

Desperate for help, Darrell reached out to paranormal investigators. More than 100 have visited the school since, and they pretty much all agree that something out of the ordinary is going on at Poasttown Elementary.
