Plumber Buys Lottery Ticket On A Whim And Wins $1 Million But Goes To His Shift Anyway

I remember being a kid and thinking that $1 million was the supreme amount of money a person could achieve.

As an adult, I can now recognize that $1 million is definitely life-changing, but it’s not the Scrooge McDuck-esque change I used to believe it would be. Basically, you probably wouldn’t quit your job if you won a million in the lottery.

Maybe you’d take an extended vacation, or even a day off.

Well, not if you’re Marty McArthur.

You see, Marty is a plumber from Colonial Heights, Virginia, who was on his way to work one morning when he hit the jackpot.

As he does every morning, Marty stopped for a cup of coffee and decided to buy a scratch-off lottery ticket.

A few moments later, he sat in his truck and sipped on his coffee while scratching the ticket.

That’s when he made the big discovery.

“I was kind of stunned for a minute,” Marty said. “I called my wife. She thought I’d been in a wreck or something.”

His lottery ticket yielded the grand prize. However, Marty opted for the one-time cash option of $561,798, which he planned to put toward his mortgage and a new car for his wife.

And after winning the prize, he still went to work.

“I couldn’t leave them hanging,” he said.
