Cats and dogs are very different creatures. They’re notorious for their inability to get along. Once in a while, though, you’ll get a pair that breaks the mold.

Six years ago, Rebecca Pizzello brought Bubba home. Bubba is a mellow, beautifully-colored pit bull who happens to have a very interesting trait: He’s crazy about cats.

When Pizzello first brought her new pup home, her roommate was caring for a litter of kittens. Bubba clicked with them immediately. At the time, Pizzello wasn’t quite ready for another animal in the house, but she promised someday she would get Bubba a kitten companion of his own.

Finally, when Bubba and his owner moved into their new home in New York City, it was time to add another furry member to the family.

Enter Rue, the adorable little ginger cat.

Needless to say, Pizzello was anxious to see what would happen the moment Bubba and Rue met. Would he connect with her just like he did with the litter of kittens all those years ago?

Rebecca Pizzello adopted Bubba, a mild-mannered pit bull, when he was just 3 months old. At the time, Pizzello was living with a roommate in Arizona that happened to be taking care of a litter of kittens.

Surprisingly,  Bubba took to the kittens quickly. Pizzello promised that as soon as she and Bubba had a place of their own, she would get Bubba a kitten companion.

Six years later, Pizzello and Bubba moved to the Big Apple. Pizzello kept her promise by adopting a new addition into the furry family, Rue the ginger kitten.

Bubba and Rue hit it off right away. Within a few hours of meeting, Rue was cuddled up to her new adopted guardian, taking a cat nap.

Bubba quickly took to his role as kitten caretaker.

“I think Rue thinks Bubba is her mom and Bubba loves it,” Pizzello told Bored Panda.

As Pizzello had expected, Bubba was filled with joy the minute his owner entered the room with his tiny, new friend.

The two nap together, eat together, and Bubba even grooms his kitten regularly.

“They will definitely be a fun duo to watch grow up together,” Pizzello said.

Cats and dogs don’t always see eye to eye, but it’s easy to see these two have a beautiful friendship ahead of them!
