In August 2018, a commercial truck was sending a group of piglets to the slaughterhouse. But fate had very different plans for one of the doomed animals.
With a stroke of luck, a 3-week-old piglet fell from the truck and landed on the busy St. Louis interstate.
While falling on the hot concrete, the piglet suffered a broken leg and road rash. Luckily, the heavy traffic stopped.
A driver stopped in her tracks, determined to save the tiny piglet (who, at her full-grown heaviest, will weigh upward of 300 pounds).
The Good Samaritan picked her up and knew exactly who to call: Randy Grim.
Randy had lost his mother and had also suffered some medical scares of his own.
He had also recently opened his own animal rescue, but he didn’t have much experience raising pigs.
Still, he opened his home to the piglet, whom he named Pickles the Miracle Pig, and says she walked into his life at exactly the right time.
At first, she was scared and untrusting of humans… but wait until you see her life now.
