Thieves are lurking around mailboxes this tax season, hoping to snag tax refund checks. According to CBS Philadelphia, there is a major upswing in mailbox theft during this time of year.

One particular set of mail thieves recently thought they had hit the jackpot when they snagged a huge box from a California home.

But just because someone ordered something online doesn’t necessarily mean it’s worth coveting. What the thieves — who were recorded on surveillance cameras — didn’t realize was that they were robbing an entomologist, or someone who studies insects.

Rosalinda Vizina ordered a package full of 500 live cockroaches. (In case you’re wondering, yes, you absolutely can order cockroaches on!)

For Rosalinda, we’re sure they were useful to her, but for many others, this is a literal nightmare. While she doesn’t care much about the thieves, she is concerned about the poor roaches.

“This particular time I ordered cockroaches,” Rosalinda told CBS Philadelphia. “I feel a little bad for the roaches if they got smashed and tossed… but for the thieves I hope they went everywhere.”

I have a feeling these thieves may have learned their lesson about stealing other people’s packages.
