According to at least five different runners from the Brookside neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri, a mischievous owl terrorized them when they least expected it.
Yes, an owl.
“I was under a street light, and I could see the shadows of the owl’s wings descending down upon me,” said Jonathan Meyer, recalling his encounter with the infamous owl.
According to most of the reports, the owl in question always appeared early in the morning, terrorizing people on their morning runs.
And the bird never left empty-handed.
“All of a sudden, I feel a pretty good knock on my head,” Jonathan described. He wasn’t hurt, but he looked up and saw the owl flying away with his hat.
Apparently, the owl has a particular fondness for hats.
“I had seen reports of owls in the area, especially in that area. I just never thought that it would meet me at any point,” Jonathan added. “If I hadn’t seen those shadows coming up behind me, I would have really been freaked out!”
Experts told FOX4KC that owls are most active in the early morning and evening hours, so it made sense that the owls would be having close encounters with the early-morning joggers.
