It’s been 41 years since Olivia Newton-John graced our screens as Sandy Olsson in Grease. The memories of the film, for both Olivia and her fans, are still very fresh.
Who among us could forget the iconic outfits she donned? Now those outfits are going up for auction for a good cause.
“This is the big item, and I want all you museums to be bidding against each other,” Olivia laughed as she stood next to the leather jacket and skintight pants her character wore for her end-of-film bad girl transformation. The scene was shot in 102-degree weather during a heatwave, so the jacket had to be removed between takes.
The pants also have a special story to them.
“They had to stitch me into them and I had to shoot,” Olivia recalled. “So the zipper is still broken, but they’re fabulous.”
The 71-year-old was all smiles and spirit, showing her strength despite battling cancer for the third time. The actress said she’s “feeling great.” “It’s been an interesting year,” she explained. “It’s been a year of healing.”
Olivia was diagnosed with a tumor in her lower back, landing her in her namesake hospital for treatment on her 70th birthday. There, she got to see firsthand what she helped create with the Olivia Newton-John Cancer and Wellness Centre. It only makes sense for the proceeds from the auction to go right back into the treatment center.
The auction takes place on November 2 in Beverly Hills at Julien’s Auctions, but you can also bid on the over 400 personal items she’s listed online.
