Olivia Newton-John is at home and looking happier than ever. Based on the stay-at-home orders, this is the first time she’s been in one place for this long.
But she’s healthy and handling everything well.
It may be hard to believe, but Olivia — who played the lead role of Sandy in the iconic film Grease — is 71 years old. Born in Cambridgeshire, England, and raised in Australia, the actress and singer helped make the movie into the classic that it is. Not only does Grease have a memorable plot, but its songs helped elevate the movie to classic status. So it’s hard to believe that she initially didn’t want the role.
Ahead of Sunday night’s airing of a Grease sing-along, Entertainment Tonight chatted with the star, who admitted she wasn’t as psyched about the role as fans may assume.
“I was really quite hesitant to be in Grease, so they sent John Travolta to talk me into it. And how can you say no to those blue eyes?” she said.
John really pushed for Olivia to get the part, even though many other actresses were in the running. He had nothing but flattering things to say about his costar back in the day. Perhaps his feelings toward Olivia helped add to the incredible on-screen chemistry they had.
Watch and see what else Olivia Newton-John has to say. She also has updates on her cancer diagnosis, which she got well over two decades ago.
