Pregnant Pig Is Being Taken To Slaughterhouse, Then She Jumps Out Of Moving Truck To Give Birth

Kristin shares a Chicago home with a dog, a rabbit, two cats, a husband, and an 11-year-old daughter.

A mother’s will to protect her babies is a powerful thing. We have all heard stories of mothers doing extraordinary things to save their young.

This instinct crosses all borders, cultures, and even species.

A pregnant pig on her way to the slaughterhouse broke out of her cage and jumped off the back of a moving flatbed truck, saving her life as well as her unborn piglets’.

The petrified pig, now named Rita, was rescued off the side of the road and taken to a dog and cat shelter by animal care and control officers. Once safely at the shelter, she gave birth to nine precious piglets!

After no one came forward to claim the adorable family of 10, Rita and piglets were taken to Animal Place, a sanctuary for abused and discarded farm animals in Grass Valley, California.

They will now live out their lives at the 60-acre sanctuary with lots of green grass, open space, and sunshine.

Watch the video and see Rita’s proud face as she nurses her piglets, knowing that they are all safe.

The lucky piglets squeal and dance around their brave mom without a care in the world — these cuties have no idea how close they came to a not-so-happy ending. Three cheers for Rita and all the brave moms out there!
