Cindy Lapierre and her five kids were driving to visit a relative when they were suddenly involved in a devastating crash.
According to authorities, Cindy had driven across a patch of black ice. It caused her truck to slide. The vehicle spun around and crashed into a tree before landing on the driver’s side door.
The mom, just 35 years old, was killed instantly.
All of the children, however, survived. Cindy’s 15-year-old son and 12-year-old stepdaughter had to recover in the hospital, but all five are expected to return home soon.
Cindy’s sister is convinced that it was Cindy’s final action — when she knew she was going to crash — that saved the children. According to her, Cindy overcorrected the truck so that she would absorb the brunt of the impact.
“She did what she had to do to correct the truck and — how it landed — we think she saved her children,” her sister, Jackie Davis, said. “The babies, of course, they’re not going to know and understand all of this, but we are not going to let them forget their mama.”
The family set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for Cindy’s funeral costs. You can visit the page here.
