Shannon Geise is a mother of five. She knows her body very well.
By the time she was expecting her fifth child, she knew what to expect from the four pregnancies that had preceded it.
Shannon’s water broke around midnight, and she thought that she would have time before the contractions kicked in. She took her time before leaving for the hospital. She even took a shower and packed a bag.
Then, she put her 17-month-old daughter in the back seat and started driving to the hospital. But just over an hour after her water broke, Shannon felt a contraction that just wouldn’t end.
She was having her baby — and she was still on the road.
Instead of panicking, she pulled over just five minutes away from the hospital. All it took was three pushes in one minute to deliver baby Sebastian. After the delivery, Shannon called 911 and patted his back until he started crying.
But instead of waiting for an ambulance, Shannon drove herself to the hospital!
She said, “Honestly, it would be quicker for me just to go.”
Baby Sebastian was born at 39 weeks, without complications and weighing in at 6 lbs., 7 oz. Both mom and baby are happy and healthy — Shannon even plans on driving both of them home herself!
