A would-be robber picked the wrong victim to mess with!

People reports that 26-year-old Polyana Viana, an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighter who lives in Rio de Janeiro, was allegedly approached by a strange man while she was waiting for her Uber on January 5.

Polyana described the incident in detail in an interview with MMA Junkie.

“When he saw I saw him, he sat next to me. He asked me the time, I said it, and I saw he wasn’t going to leave. So I already moved to put my cell phone in my waist,” she recalled. “And then he said, ‘Give me the phone. Don’t try to react, because I’m armed.’ Then he put his hand over (a gun), but I realized it was too soft.”

But what the attempted mugger didn’t realize is that Polyana is trained and highly skilled in mixed martial arts.

According to People, she has a 10-2 MMA record and a 1-1 record in the UFC. Her fighting instincts kicked in, and she easily subdued him.

“He was really close to me. So I thought, ‘If it’s a gun, he won’t have time to draw it.’ So I stood up. I threw two punches and a kick,” she explained. “He fell, then I caught him in a rear-naked choke. Then I sat him down in the same place we were before and said, ‘Now we’ll wait for the police.'”

As it turned out, the suspect didn’t have a gun at all — only a cardboard paper cutout in the shape of a handgun. Despite the danger, Polyana said she remained calm.

“I was fine. I was fine because he didn’t even react after. Since he took the punches very quickly, I think he was scared. So he didn’t react anymore,” she said. “He told me to let him go, like ‘I just asked for the time.’ I said, ‘Asked for the time my a**,’ because he saw I was very angry. I said I wouldn’t let go and that I was going to call the police. He said, ‘Call the police, then’ because he was scared I was going to beat him up more.”

The story quickly went viral as a photo Polyana took of the bloodied and battered man was circulated online.
