A black Lab mix named Abby seemingly vanished 10 years ago. Then, after a decade, Abby suddenly reappeared. Now her family, in Apollo, Pennsylvania, is ecstatic.

Debra Suierveld was certain Abby had died. What else could possibly explain Abby’s disappearance?

“We thought she had passed away,” Debra says in the video below. “It feels like a part of my kids’ childhood is back, part of our family is back. It’s pretty awesome.”

The last time Debra saw the dog before her disappearance, Abby was playing with her children near the woods in their backyard. Then she was gone.

“There is this big dog on the porch right where you walk up,” George Spiering recalls of finding Abby 10 years later.

She just came and planted herself on George’s porch, 10 miles away from Debra’s home. George called the police and animal rescue. Fortunately, Abby had been chipped!

“When I scanned her, I found a microchip, which made us very excited,” says Jody Berisko from Animal Protectors of Allegheny Valley.

Soon after, Abby reunited with her family after all those years, still friendly, mellow, and in perfect health. Wherever she’d spent the previous decade, she’d been well taken care of.

“She would lie on the floor and cross her paws, and she remembers my daughter’s commands, and she remembers the commands I taught her,” Debra says.

The family likes to joke that Abby must have been in the witness protection program. They’re so excited to have her back they’ve planned a family reunion to welcome her home.
