Red-Headed Boy Hasn’t Seen Mom In 12 Months, Until School Mascot Removes Giant Eagle Head

On a Friday morning, the fifth graders at Chaffee Elementary School in Alabama poured into the cafeteria for a very exciting event.

The students would be working on a history project with former NASA engineers, and the news team from station WHNT was there to film them.

For one student in particular, Kael Lancey, the project served as a much-needed and fun distraction. Kael’s mom has been deployed in Kuwait for the past year for her third deployment.

Kael hadn’t seen his beloved and heroic mom since last Christmas.

The school project kicked off with a collective rendition of the national anthem.

Then came the big surprise.

The person donning the school’s mascot costume suddenly removed her giant eagle’s head and revealed herself to be none other than Sgt. Desiree Lancey herself. As it turned out, the entire “history project” was a ruse, set up by Desiree and the school administrators to give Kael the gift he’d been longing for.

The moment Kael realized just who was standing in front of him, he completely lost it.

It’s such a great reaction, you have to see it for yourself.
