Jersey Shore star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino has been sentenced to eight months in prison for tax evasion.

The 36-year-old reality star will also face two years of supervised release after his sentence is over.

According to People, Mike was accompanied by his fiancée Lauren Pesce and his Jersey Shore costars during the hearing. The judge made the ruling on Friday, October 5, 2018.

People explained:

“Sorrentino and his brother Marc were initially indicted in September 2014 for tax offenses and conspiring to defraud the United States after allegedly failing to properly pay taxes on $8.9 million in income from 2010 to 2012. In April 2017, both men were indicted on additional charges including tax evasion, structuring and falsifying records.”

Mike’s brother Marc was also sentenced to prison for similar charges — he will serve two years.

Mike’s lawyers were hoping he would only receive probation, saying he played only a minor role in the alleged conspiracy. They also pointed out that he’s done a lot to clean up his act in the past few years, including becoming sober.

On the Jersey Shore: Family Vacation reboot, Mike appeared to be much more in control. He no longer drinks or does drugs. In fact, just yesterday, he celebrated 34 months of sobriety.

The prosecution in the case was fighting for 14 months of prison time, but the judge decided on eight months. Hopefully, Mike will stay out of trouble in prison and return home an even better person.
