Former Spice Girl and longtime talent judge Mel B is entering rehab for alcohol and sex addictions, according to reports.
The news comes on the heels of working on her memoir, Brutally Honest. The experience was clearly rough on the star; according to Mel, “The past six months have been incredibly difficult for me. I’ve been working with a writer on my book, Brutally Honest, and it has been unbelievably traumatic reliving an emotionally abusive relationship and confronting so many massive issues in my life.”
While the official reason for the rehab is alcohol and sex, Mel’s really trying to work on the undercurrents that control those habits. “I am being very honest about drinking to numb my pain but that is just a way a lot of people mask what is really going on,” she said. “Sometimes it is too hard to cope with all the emotions I feel. But the problem has never been about sex or alcohol — it is underneath all that.”
Mel’s mom Andrea Brown posted a screenshot to Twitter in support of her daughter, saying, “I’m so proud of my daughter. She has the courage to face her demons head on and deal with them. I know what hell she has been through and I know what trauma she has suffered and still suffers.”
The singer has claimed she was diagnosed with PTSD and has alleged that her former husband, Stephen Belafonte, was abusive. All charges against Stephen were dropped when they reached a divorce settlement.
