Melanie and Jamie are a mother-son singing duo from Wales, UK — but when they recently auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent, they’d only been performing together for a few weeks!

Jamie is 15 years old and Melanie is 44. She works a day job singing in nursing homes to elderly residents. With that kind of a caring and meaningful profession, it makes total sense that she describes her family as happy-go-lucky and close-knit.

Watch as Melanie and Jamie win the judges’ hearts with their version of “Say Something” by A Great Big World. “You won’t mind if I hug you on stage, will you?” she asks Jamie before they stand in front of the judges.

“No. I always hug you anyway, ” he replies.

Jamie was supposed to audition by himself, but a few days before the big day, he got cold feet. That’s when Melanie stepped in and offered to sing with him, and Jamie instantly felt more comfortable and confident about the audition. “To walk on stage with my son is gonna be one of the proudest moments of my life,” she says. Little did they know their audition would quickly go viral, and that their bond would inspire thousands of people around the world.
