Meghan McCain Comes Clean About Why She Hasn’t Been Sharing Pregnancy Updates With Her Fans

by Angela Andaloro

In late March, fans of Meghan McCain and The View were thrilled to learn that the 35-year-old cohost is pregnant with her first child.

Meghan shared the news to explain why she was working remotely early in the global battle against the ongoing health crisis. She explained that while she was in good health, doctors advised her to limit exposure to others until more was known.

Meghan has bravely shared her journey to motherhood with the public. Last July, she penned an emotional op-ed in The New York Times detailing the lessons she learned from her miscarriage. It was the first time she revealed the extremely private news.

Fans were hoping Meghan would allow the public to continue to watch her journey throughout this pregnancy. Surprisingly, Meghan hasn’t provided many updates. In a recent tweet, she cleared the air as to why she’s kept quiet. She also revealed that she and husband Ben Domenech plan to continue to keep that part of their lives private.

Meghan McCain has been open about her journey to motherhood, but always on her own terms. The 35-year-old cohost of The View made a bold and brave step in July 2019, when she shared that she had experienced a miscarriage. She told her story in an op-ed for The New York Times.

“I missed a few days of work. It wasn’t many, but given the job I have, it was enough to spark gossip about why I would be away from The View. This was not supposed to be public knowledge,” she wrote. “I have had my share of public grief and public joy.”

Meghan again had to publicize her private life in March, when she announced she and husband Ben Domenech are expecting.

“My husband Ben and I have been blessed to find out I’m pregnant,” she wrote in a statement shared on her social media accounts.

“Although this isn’t how I expected to announce my pregnancy, both we and our families are excited to share the news with you all.”

“I consulted with my doctors and they advised me that for the safety of our baby and myself, I should be extra vigilant about limiting the amount of people we come in contact with,” she continued.

“As a result, I will be appearing on The View from home via satellite. I’m fortunate that my employer, ABC, has allowed me and my co-hosts to work remotely. I am indebted to our producers and crew.”

“She and her family are very excited by the news,” a source close to Meghan told People magazine.

“But right now, she’s finding strength at her role at The View. She knows her most important responsibility is to inform Americans to stay home and minimize the spread of the [virus].”

Many fans were hopeful that Meghan would continue being open and sharing the highs and lows of her pregnancy. That hasn’t been the experience. She’s been very quiet about it. Certainly, there are a lot of other things going on in the world to focus on, but that hasn’t stopped fans from asking questions.

Meghan finally addressed why she has been so quiet about her pregnancy. Thankfully, it isn’t because of bad news, as some fans feared. What Meghan did cite as her reason is fascinating and, quite frankly, makes a lot of sense.

Meghan took to Twitter with an explanation. “People keep asking and requesting I show pics & details of my pregnancy. Given that people write on photos I put up of my family they are glad my Dad got cancer and he’s in h*ll, I thought I would leave my unborn child out of the social media cesspool as much as is possible,” she tweeted.

Meghan later elaborated when sharing a screenshot of that tweet on Instagram. “Ben and I have made the conscious decision to guard our (growing) families privacy as much as is possible. I believe children have a right to privacy and hope you will all understand as we navigate this as much as possible going forward without sacrificing our comfort or safety,” she wrote.

A bunch of inhumane [expletives] have really ruined so much for so many on social media and I learned a lot of hard lessons about cruelty that comes with being open and vulnerable about my personal life during my Dads cancer fight,” she continued.

“It is a shame. I know this is an unorthodox choice for a talk show host who is on tv five days a week – but I’ve always lived by the beat of my own drum. Thank you for the continued kind words, support, and prayers regarding my pregnancy from so many of you who are nothing but kind. It has meant a lot during this crazy time. ♥️.”

Many people validated Meghan’s concerns. Whether or not she set out to be, she has become a very polarizing figure who shares opinions on controversial subjects on a very public platform. It’s not unreasonable to think Meghan has received all kinds of hate and threats, and it’s totally understandable why she would want to protect her child from that.

Others believed Meghan was grandstanding with the announcement. There are a number of celebrities who choose not to share information about pregnancies and children publicly and only address it if asked about it. While Meghan was asked by fans, she hasn’t been asked on her show or by any other media outlets.
