Over the past few months, since the announcement of her engagement to Prince Harry, Meghan Markle has been getting a crash course in being a part of the royal family.

This means that she will travel around the world to greet other leaders, take part in foreign ceremonies and traditions, and participate in charitable work and philanthropy around the globe.

All this to say that it was almost certain she would not be able to reprise her role on the hit show Suits. After all — being a royal is a full-time job in itself! Her departure from the show after seven seasons was announced the day after the news of her engagement broke in November 2017, according to EW.

Losing the star was surely a blow to fans, but they won’t go long without a replacement. According to The Hollywood Reporter, former Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl will join the cast in season eight.

She will play a character named Samantha Wheeler, “a talented new partner at Pearson Specter Litt who challenges the status quo and will either become the firm’s greatest ally or most powerful enemy.”

“Joining Suits was the perfect, organic way to not only collaborate with an EP I admire deeply, but to also become part of a show and cast that I am an immense fan of,” Heigl reportedly said in a statement. “I have watched Suits from the very beginning and feel incredibly lucky to be the newest member of the Pearson Specter Litt family.”
