There’s an unfortunate tendency for people to pit powerful and prominent women against one another. Sadly, that’s recently been the case for Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton.

The royal sisters-in-law have been at the center of the royal rumor mill over the past few weeks. Many fans have increasingly become convinced that the two are secretly “feuding,” pointing toward the reports that Prince William and Prince Harry would be dividing into two separate “courts” and the now-confirmed news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are moving away from their cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace to a new Windsor Castle home many miles away.

Some even speculated that the supposed “tension” between the two duchesses may have been the reason for moving so far away, when many initially expected Meghan and Harry to remain Will and Kate’s neighbors by moving into an adjacent “apartment” in Kensington Palace.

While rumors of an out-and-out feud seem to be a dramatic exaggeration, several royal experts and correspondents seem to agree that the two women are simply not that close.

Richard Palmer, royal correspondent for the Express, tweeted amidst the Frogmore Cottage moving news that “Harry and Meghan [are] spreading their wings. No big fallout but Kate and Meghan not close.” Similarly, citing information from her sources, the Daily Mail‘s royal correspondent Rebecca English wrote that the two women “are simply very different people” and that “sources insist there has been no dramatic falling out.”

“It would be simply wrong to lay this parting of the ways [between the Sussexes and the Cambridges] at Meghan’s feet,” the royal correspondent claimed. Instead, sources say that the move to Frogmore Cottage is all about Harry’s desire to “escape the goldfish bowl of royal life” that is so prevalent living at Kensington Palace “for the sake of his marriage and his unborn child.”

While we’ll never know the inner workings of the royal family’s dynamics, one thing is for sure: Nobody is letting on publicly that there is even a drop of “tension.” In fact, just earlier this week, Kate was caught on camera expressing her joy and excitement for Meghan’s pregnancy.

“It’s such a special time to have all the kiddies and a cousin for George and Charlotte as well as Louis so it’ll be really special,” the Duchess of Cambridge said.
