New year, new hairstyle!
Meghan Markle and her husband-to-be, Prince Harry, stepped out for their first official royal engagement of the year on January 9, 2018. The couple visited a community radio station in the south London neighborhood of Brixton.
According to The Washington Post, the two met staff from Reprezent FM, which gives training in media skills to at-risk youth. Members of the public lined up to meet Meghan and Harry during their outing and greeted them ecstatically, with camera flashes and adoring screams. The future duchess was visibly overcome when she noticed how excited the crowds were to see her!
But online, not everyone was so pleased with one particular aspect of Meghan’s appearance: her “messy bun” hairstyle.
“The untidy topknot was not becoming. OK, these two need to grow up, they aren’t teens or in their 20’s anymore. Harry is early 30’s and Meghan is almost 40,” one Twitter user wrote. “She can’t keep pushing the envelope, eventually the Queen is going to step in and take her to task. We need dignity.”
“When is Meghan getting a coach or at least hairstylist/wardrobe help?? ” another critical royal family follower commented on Instagram. “How many princesses, queens, etc., do you see going to an event in a messy no shampoo day bun?”
Many even negatively compared Meghan’s bun to the sleek styles always worn by her future sister-in-law. Kate Middleton was at home today, enjoying a low-key 36th birthday celebration with other members of the royal family, according to E! News.
Vogue described Meghan’s look as a “California-girl style” and noted that it was obviously a change from her typical sleek and wavy blowout. Though some people disliked the bride-to-be‘s more casual look, plenty of others applauded her for shaking things up — and clearly, she looks gorgeous either way!
