A dad’s fear for his daughter is no laughing matter — but how much stock should we really put in his fears?
According to Thomas Markle, Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle has changed since she joined the royal family. “My thing about my daughter right now is that I think she is terrified,” he says during a recent interview. “I see it in her eyes, I see it in her face and I see it in her smile.”
He adds why he’s suspicious that not all is well in Meghan’s life: “I’ve seen her smile for years. I know her smile. I don’t like the one I’m seeing now. This one isn’t even a stage smile — this is a pained smile.”
Thomas made headlines before the royal wedding when it was revealed that he’d set up a number of paparazzi photo shoots, a major no-no considering the family his daughter was marrying into. He also didn’t walk Meghan down the aisle due to reported health problems.
That drama may be why he hasn’t spoken to his daughter in nearly two months. “It is probably the longest time I have gone without speaking to her ever,” claims Thomas. He also says that he hasn’t been able to reach her at the phone numbers he’s been given.
“If I had one message for her,” he concludes, “it would be that I’m sorry for anything that went wrong.”
But the question is, how much stock can you really put in the sadly estranged dad’s fears?
