Has Meghan Markle Picked Up A British Accent Just Two Months After Her Wedding To Prince Harry?

by Madison Vanderberg

Meghan Markle has been a member of the royal family for about two months, and yet she’s seemingly developed a British accent in that short time.

A fan shared a video of the Duchess of Sussex at a meet-and-greet, and she appears to have the slightest British accent. It’s not uncommon for someone to “pick up” a regional accent (just ask Madonna or Lindsay Lohan), but some fans online argue that she’s just being “proper.” If you search “Meghan Markle British accent,” you’ll see it’s a hotly debated topic.

“Y’all, Meghan has lived in the UK for 8 months. It’s gonna take a few years for her to actually adopt that accent.

She still sounds like her proper American self in that clip. With a little British twang,” tweeted a fan.

“So that’s not an accent,” someone else tweeted. “She’s just using phrases and mannerism of British people, when you live somewhere new you can adopt some mannerisms of that place. Also she’s a royal now, she’s being proper.”

If you listen to the clip, it really is hard to tell if she’s just being polite, speaking in an accent, or adopting the ultra-proper customs of the royal family. It seems as if it would be impossible to pick up an accent in under a year (she’s been living in the UK full-time since she and Harry announced their engagement at the end of 2017), but then again, she is an actress.
