Have you ever found yourself driving along a narrow, winding road with mountains on either side and thought, “This has the potential to go really, really badly?”

I don’t know that I’ve ever driven through the mountains without wondering, at least once, how sturdy those crumbly-looking cliffs really are. Fortunately, most of the time, they are pretty sturdy, and they’re often shored up with nets or retaining walls.

That said, at the end of the day, Mother Nature is always going to have the final word, no matter how many safeguards we put in place. We are talking about awesome natural forces with the power to split an iceberg in half like a Kit Kat bar.

Whether you see them as acts of divine intervention, or random natural occurrences, it can be pretty much impossible to predict when something dramatic is about to happen in the world around us, as we saw with this dangerous, volatile volcano in Chile. Sometimes there’s no reason — it’s just that the time has come.

That’s essentially what we see here, in this incredible piece of dash cam footage captured in 2013. It was a rainy day in Taiwan, and several cars were making careful progress along a cliffside road in the countryside.

At first, it looks like everyone will make it through without a problem, then you notice a few pebbles rolling down the cliff face. Watch closely for what happens 20 seconds in — this man is either very lucky, or he has one seriously impressive guardian angel.
