Woman Thinks She Can’t Sing After Going Deaf, Simon Leaps Up When She Belts Out Original Song

by Jess Butler
Jess is a curly-haired Jersey girl who adores penguins and watches the worst reality shows on TV.

When Mandy Harvey stepped onto the America’s Got Talent stage, she didn’t just jump into her song like the other performers.

After being born with hearing problems and going completely deaf at age 19, Mandy began taking an entirely different approach to creating music.

She had to feel the rhythm, rather than hear notes and adjust her voice accordingly. Although it was a complicated process, Mandy made it look like a piece of cake.

At first, the journey back to singing was rough, but Mandy didn’t let the fact that she was deaf stand between her and her greatest passion.

During her first “Live Show,” the deaf singer decided to sing “Mara’s Song,” which she wrote herself.

In the video below, posted August 22, 2017, Mandy begins strumming and opens her mouth to sing. As her angelic voice hits every single note, you can’t help but be amazed by her impressive skills.

Her voice, presence, and overall dedication to her own music truly sets her apart from her fellow contestants. This is especially true in Simon’s eyes — he gave her his Golden Buzzer during her audition.

In the end, the entire crowd cheers Mandy on and proves that she can make an impact on any audience.

So, what do you think of Mandy’s performance?
