As soon as the weather gets colder, many of us can feel cold and flu season creeping up on us. We try our best to stay healthy by drinking plenty of fluids, eating healthy, and exercising regularly. Maybe we take a few extra vitamins in the morning, wash our hands better, and make a conscious effort to cover our mouths and noses — but all these precautions can still be for naught.

Doctors are stressing that, if you do fall ill, it’s important to see a doctor if your symptoms persist. The flu is more widespread this year than ever before, and it’s crucial to know the symptoms: fever, chills, muscle aches, cough, congestion, runny nose, headaches, and fatigue.

Even those who are perfectly healthy can get very sick. Twenty-one-year-old Kyler was an aspiring personal trainer before he suddenly died from complications of the flu.

The young man came home for Christmas, and his family noticed that he was suffering from a runny nose and coughing. He also complained of chest pain.

Just a few days later, he died. Doctors told his grieving family that he’d passed away from organ failure due to septic shock caused by influenza.

Kyler is not the only victim of the flu. Folks around the country are choosing to delay seeing a doctor when experiencing flu symptoms, which can clearly have deadly consequences.
