The older we get, the more vulnerable we tend to become. Our reflexes are not the same as they used to be, and we no longer have the speed and strength to perform certain tasks.

This makes the elderly vulnerable to criminals who want to take advantage of this and, for example, steal their belongings using brute force.

Unfortunately, an 80-year-old woman became the victim of one of these thieves. She was followed into the lobby of the building in which she lives, and a man tried to forcibly take her purse.

The elderly woman wasn’t going to let go of her possessions so easily, though. He dragged her on the ground, trying to pry the purse out of her hands, but she refused.

What was not caught on camera was that she was screaming for help. She knew her downstairs neighbors’ names, and called them out.

The thief wasn’t scared away by this tactic, but did end up running away empty-handed when one the the neighbors, Alex Weiss, came charging at him. He was caught on camera, and if it weren’t for his actions, the elderly woman would have certainly been hurt in the altercation.

Though the Upper East Side, the neighborhood in which this took place, is normally safe, neighbors are on high alert as this isn’t the first attempted robbery by this particular thief and his accomplices.
